Welcome to Eric Beerkens' Blog and website. This blog started during my postdoctoral research at the University of Sydney in Australia in 2005. I held a fellowship there from 2005-2008. I currently don't have sufficient time to actively maintain the blog and frequently write quality posts on higher education and related issues. In the mean time, I will regularly link to interesting news items on my twitter account and try to write interesting items now and then. I hope to resume posting more frequently again some time in the near future. Before working in Sydney I was a research associate at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) in the Netherlands from 1998 - 2005. After returning from Sydney I was Head of Studies at the Knowledge & Innovation Directorate of the Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) from 2008 - 2010. Since October 2010 I'm working at the Academic Affairs Unit of Leiden University where I focus on internationalisation policies and strategies of the university. My professional and research interests are in policies and politics in the fields of higher education and science & technology, especially issues related to internationalisation, globalisaton, international cooperation and regional integration.
