Welcome to my blog and website.I started this blog in 2005. The past few years posting on the blog became less frequent but I try to add some posts now and then. In the mean time, I will regularly link to interesting news items on my twitter account.

The topics of the blog reflect my professional and research interests. For the past 15 years I have been academically and professionally involved in (international) higher education.

I was a research associate at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) in the Netherlands from 1998 - 2005. From 2005-2008 I held a postdoc fellowship at the University of Sydney in Australia. After returning from Sydney I was Head of Studies at the Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) from 2008 - 2010. Since October 2010 I've been at the Academic Affairs Directorate of Leiden University where I focus on internationalisation policies and strategies of the university.

My professional and research interests are in policies and politics in the fields of higher education and science & technology, especially issues related to internationalisation, globalisaton, international cooperation and regional integration. The past years my activities have shifted from research to policy. I have been involved in the strategic planning proces in Nuffic (Strategy 2010-2015) and in Leiden University (Strategic Plan 2015-2020). At Leiden I am responsible for university wide internationalisation policies, strategic cooperation with our priority countries and for Leiden's activities in networks such as LERU, Coimbra Group and Europaeum.
